Sheryl Crow’s New Album: 100 Miles From Memphis

Sheryl Crow’s 100 Miles From Memphis. This album brings back the vibe of the good ol’ sounds. Focusing on roots music, it has a lot of elements from Motown to country to gospel to funk to blues to reggae. It’s quite different from the previous ones but not that really far in terms of songwriting is concerned. It’s new but with a touch of old. Hats off to the production crew led by Doyle Bramhall ll for making it sound so authentic. I smell another score at the Grammys with this one.

I really love this new release by Sheryl Crow. Been listening to it over and over again. Each song has a great feel in it. My favorite tracks are Say What You Want, reminds me of the riff from Stevie Wonder’s Superstition. Their cover of Jackson 5′s I Want You Back, love that funky groove and her voice sounds like MJ’s, thanks to the power of today’s technology, autotune I guess. Roses And Moonlight has that SRV outro solo feel, Sideways, Peaceful Feeling, Our Love Is Fading and their current single Summer Day.

If you’re into the classics then this album fits the bill. You’ll find little rock here, so fans of her wanting some rock tunes, this isn’t the right album for you. And for that matter, she might lose some fans who would want some catchier and edgier songs as the tracks here, well, don’t have that vibe like her past singles All I Wanna Do or If It Makes You Happy.

Caidic Turned The NBA Legends Into True Believers!

“Caidic 3 pts!“. If you’re a fan of the PBA in the late 80s and early to mid 90s, you probably heard this from the courtside announcer over and over again. At 47, Allan Caidic, known as the Triggerman, fired once more with accuracy from the outside. Playing with former NBA and PBA stars again on the 2010 NBA Asia Challenge, he exploded with 54 pts. in just, well, only 24 minutes of action, topscoring for his squad. He unloaded 14 treys, 3 less than his record of 17 triples. It was another scorching performance, that turned the NBA legends into true believers!

The legend of the much talked about myth of a feared number 8 shooter in Asian competions was actually true. And last year, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Dominique Wilkins witnessed this feared gunner thus gaining tremendous accolades from him, and now, the younger generation of legends in Glenn Rice, whom he beat in a special 3-point shooting contest, Garry Payton, Mitch Richmond and Chris Webber expereinced his outstanding 3 point barrage and were all praises to the man they called “Trigger”.

They haven’t seen an Asian player like him definitely. And if only Samboy Lim was able to play, then they’ll be seeing the Michael Jordan version of Asia!

With the Triggerman still in great shooting form, I think he can still play for the National Squad and shoot the lights out. There’s no other shooter in the Philippines as sharp as he is. Not even your James Yap or Hontiveros or those other guys. No offense, but these so-called “shooters” are just mere posers. They’re good players but not as good as number 8.

While they’ve showed some greatness in the PBA and in not much high international competitions like SEABA and SEAG, I haven’t seen their mark well in prestigious meets like the Asian Games or FIBA Men’s Qualifying tournament.

Still has to polish their guns though if they want to be like him, as inconsistency still remained in their brand of play. Having a good shooting night then followed by an aweful and mediocre performances in prestigious meets, I think you can’t afford to have those kind of games as every game is important. You don’t see that with the Triggerman who was always sharp and consistent, and when the game was on the line, he never choked and always carried the team to victory.

The Triggerman is the real deal! Once a pure shooter is always a shooter!

What’s With The Red?

Just this afternoon, my one year old nephew was about to put to sleep by his mom and he just kept on saying “lola” and seemed to want to go to her room. So they went to our living room and put him to sleep there. Saw him, and he’s quite sad, as if he knew what was going on. His eyes were already sleepy, and was yawning but he just seemed to control it, that he’s still awake no matter what his mom did.

Our aunt had just died a couple of hours ago, so maybe he was seeing her from a close distance, or maybe she just couldn’t leave him yet that she was there somewhere, I don’t know. . My cousin suggested that he should wore a red shirt or if not, have him covered with a red blanket, that’s according to superstitious beliefs from the elders. As soon as he had this red shirt worn, he fell asleep quickly, smooth and sound. With that incident, it puzzles me, what’s with the color red? Elders say it’s for protection, but why that color instead of white or blue or green or yellow..

In Memory Of Andrea..To Our Beloved Departed

Death will come to all of us, but how and when, we certainly don’t know. Just this month alone, so many lives were lost, including our aunt who passed away just hours ago. She’s not just our aunt, as she has become our mom in a way when our real mother died right after I was born. She and her older sister, who died ten years ago, stood up to be our moms. They were the ones who took care of us when we were little, my brothers and cousins too until we grow old, so a big part of my character, of me being good to others, it’s mainly because of them. They taught us to do right.

Age has caught her up, and even got bedridden for her osteo arthritis so only time can tell when she’ll going to leave. We’ve anticipated and accepted the fact that anytime she’ll be gone. But it’s still a big surprise as it happened sooner. Three months from now, she’ll be celebrating her birthday.. So it’s just been sad that she too has bade adieu to us. As what Savoy Brown song said it, all we can do is cry..

She had lived her life to the fullest, so I want to thank her for everything.. May your soul rest in peace.. Say hello to heaven for us..

Filipino Animator Won At The Emmys

Scottie Pippen To Get A Commemorative Statue In Chicago

After being named to basketball’s Hall of Fame this year, Scottie Pippen gets another honor. This time he’ll be getting a well deserved statue in Chicago’s United Center similar to that of Michael Jordan. Wow, can’t wait to see it done. It will be so cool to see His Airness’s statue alongside Scottie’s at United Center. Wonder what’s it going to be like.
